Perks of the Job (Part 1)

There are times when I just want to quit, but there are more times that I just love what I do and relish in the fact that I can just hang out with the boys (a little harder to do with girls, but that's a different sort of fun that I'll talk about in Part 2).  I'm getting more involved with Children's Ministry, and that is a different set of fun altogether, but I'm going to miss the relational aspect of Youth Ministry.  I still try to do my best, though.  I just hope that I am more intentional as I go along.

Here's an example of what I mean by having a fun day.

That's probably B. Fu's hand in the corner there.  I can imagine him talking and motioning with his hands something not so profound, but it sounds profound because of that deep voice of his.

One thing that we must get out of the habit of doing is equating fellowship with food.  For non-churchy folks, fellowship is living life together, not just hanging out and eating.  But, meal times can be a wonderful time of bonding.  However, when's the last time you had a substantial conversation while shoving some mackerel in your face.

D. Cha is the king of mackerel.  I don't know how he can eat such "fishy" tasting sushi and love it.  Collectively, we ate nearly 60 plates of sushi (at a reasonable price, too--take that Blue C Sushi!) at Sushiland.

Notice, it's a bunch of green ($1) and orange ($1.50) plates.  I was being a baller that day and grabbed some blue ones ($2).  Thanks Mr. Dan for always being so generous and paying for lunch that day!

Then we proceeded to get together to play a little Brood Wars--that's StarCraft for you non-geeks.

Reminds me of my college days... except, I'm still a noob and always will be with that game.  I'll stick to reading my books.

It isn't work... but I don't think I ever thought of ministry as work.  The meetings, the bureaucracy, the politics of dealing with different sorts of people and issues that come as a direct result of poor decisions and values, paperwork, administrative stuff, training, educating, speaking, preparing--that's work.

This stuff just paves the way for meaningful conversations, trust built over time, and sharing moments together so that when we need to sharpen each other, the bond of friendship and brotherhood is holds us together even in our shortcomings.

Hanging out with guys is easy, but being intentional is somewhat of a challenge at times.  My hope is that as we hang out, they won't be so exclusive and will go out of their way to also bring others in... nothing so serious at first, but just to start that process and pave the way for true fellowship.

    HEY, IT’S MY HOUSE.

  2. “I want a bowl of rice” may not be so profound

    did you buy your own domain?

  3. Yes… it only costs like $8 and my brother had server space, so why not???

  4. Dude. That’s disgusting…

    The Starcraft and the Sushiland plates, hahahaha. Just kidding. :P

    “The Brotherhood.” Shouldn’t there be a Sisterhood? How come nobody wants to start one?? -__-;
