Larger than Life
Saw this great post from Toxel. Check out the site for more pictures of larger than life objects. This one and the fork one are my favorite:

The whole "larger than life" thing got me thinking about legacy.
A legacy doesn't have to be something big. In fact, everyone leaves behind some sort of legacy--it's just that some have a larger influence than others. Take Michael Jackson, for instance. The guy died almost two months ago and he's still in the news. Yes, we'll be talking about Michael Jackson for years to come because of his music, but just because you are not the King of Pop does not mean that you will not leave something behind.
The question, rather, is what sort of "something" will you leave behind? Will it empower others or will it hinder them?
I've been reading through the Old Testament (and for those who are new to reading the Bible, it's the part that builds us up to the coming of God in the flesh in the New Testament). Yes, odd thought, but if you'd like to learn more just ask!
Anyway, I've been reading through the stories of kings (people who have some sort of legacy because people just assume they will have one due to their notoriety), and one after another the scriptures talk about how everything they did were written down. But what is most notable is that with every king, there is always mention of how faithful they were before God.
More specifically, whether or not they followed God or turned from the ways of their fathers. More often than not, the kings that did turn from God's laws also had descendants that did. But, there were the exceptions, like David, like Josiah. You can't blame the legacy of descendents to come upon their predecessors, but there can be something said about helping the next generation.
You don't have to be a king, nor do you have to be "notorious" to leave a legacy behind. But I hope that in all of our journeys, we would leave some sort of legacy that would help the next generation, even the current one, turn more towards this God who is eternal.
