Praying for You

One of the most awkward and powerful things you can say to a person is, "I am praying for you."

Why's it so awkward?  Well, if you weren't in the best of moods that could come off as rather insulting.  We often think praying is a response to some problem or issue that needs resolution.  But it doesn't always have to be for that reason!

It can be one of the most powerful things, and in Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Life Together, he mentions how prayer is probably the most loving thing we could do for one another.  After all, when we pray for others we lift them up into God's hands.  Not to say that all you should do is pray when God might be asking YOU to be His hands and feet.

There have been countless times when I have wondered if anybody cared enough to notice if I went missing for a while (I know, very mundane thought!).  But you never know when someone might just NEED to hear from you, "What's going on in your life?  Can I pray for you?"

Maybe "praying for" might have that negative connotation, so maybe it's better to say "praying with."  Regardless, it's never a bad thing to pray in the spirit of trying to love people!
