Goood

Out of all the places we could have gone, my parents wanted to go to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch.  It's been a while since I've last spent some time with them, so I offered to buy.

Now, there's nothing funny or interesting about that, but what cracked a smile on my face today was the automatic responses I sometimes make unconsciously on random occasions.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see the waitress making her way to our table.  Opening up the menu I quickly helped my parents make up their minds and got ready to order.  The waitress got right up near the edge of the table and started to say, "Hi, my name is Sally and I'll be your waitress today..." when I interrupted in anticipation of what I thought she was going to say next.

"Goo-oo-od!" as I caught myself extending the word out as if I had something more to say.

That's what I said.  I said "good".  But little did I know "Hi, my name is Sally and I'll be your waitress today" was just simply going to be followed by a period.  That's it, "Hi, I'm Sally, I'm your waitress."  Good?!?!?!?!?

You had to have been there, but it was awkward because I TOTALLY thought she was going to say, "Hi, my name is Sally and I'll be your waitress today.  How are you guys doing today?"  But, no.  Apparently, I was glad she was our waitress today.  "That's right, you're my waitress.  Good."  Stupid me.

You ever do that sometimes, where you'll anticipate a response to a question that hasn't been posed yet?  Yet another reason why people should be slow to speak and quick to listen.  Just thought I'd humor you at my expense.
