Santa vs. Jesus

I always wondered why Santa is spelled the way it is--because if you spell it wrong it becomes Satan.I asked the kids today what the difference was between believing in Jesus and believing in Santa.  One smart kid said it the best when he said:

"Only Jesus could have died on the cross because Santa's just too fat to get on there."

We all had a good laugh over that one.

But, we definitely have some kids who know Jesus beyond just Sunday school knowledge.  Another student responded:

"We believe in Jesus because of what He did for us on the cross and we believe in Santa only for what he can give to us."

He couldn't be more right and wrong at the same time.  Ideally, that would be so true.  But many times, even when I critically listen to my own prayers, I sometimes wonder if I believe and worship God for what He did and who He is rather than what he can give and do for me.

I believe God is a generous God, but sometimes I forget that it's more than just what he can give or do (Lord, I need you to...) when it's simply about who He is.

So my question remains for you to ponder whenever you read this:  Who is God?
