How Dare You!

Dear lady-that's-running-on-the-treadmill-next-to-me,

How dare you change the channel from ESPN to HGTV during my workout.  Please leave the TV as it was set, not to suit your personal interests.  If you wanted HGTV or the Bonnie Hunt Show, you should have chosen another treadmill and left the one I (and probably all the other guys next to me) was watching alone.  It wasn't like I set the TV to ESPN, I just found it that way and chose to work out in front of it.  Please be more courteous next time and at least ask those around you if it would be alright to change the channel.  When you do, we'll tell you to leave our ESPN alone and tell you to move.

Come on, I'm just being honest.  I thought that, but I just kept working out and minded my own business--after all, I only had about 8 minutes left on the treadmill.  But how many times have I come across a situation where my preferences butted up against someone else's preferences and wanted my own way.

Service is a quality of character, especially for those who call themselves Christians because we have a Savior who showed us what it meant to be a servant.

Being a servant does not mean you let people run all over you, but it does mean you set yourself up in a position where you can put them before yourself.  If you're used to always controlling the remote, it's time to hand it over.  A little service goes a long way.
