The Most Provocative Commercial Ever

Watch CBS News Videos Online

Whether you like him or not, this is one of the most provocative commercials I have ever seen.

From the black a white framing, to the subtle shift of the camera as the edited voice of his late father inquires of Tiger questions that he may never answer--What did you learn?  Silent the whole way through, who knows what is on the mind of one of the world's most influential.

Nike's message is clear:  It's not about what you say.  What's done is done, learn from it, change and move on.

Well, at least that's how I'm interpreting it.  By no means do I necessarily agree with the statement either.  Different people have different circumstances and different ways that they need to go about changing things.  That's the wonderful thing about advertising, it grabs your attention and if done well communicates something to everyone.

Well done, Nike.

EDIT:  A friend sent me an article via Facebook (thanks JC) that is well worth the read and would echo my sentiments about how I feel about the context surrounding the ad.  But again, this blog was just about the advertising genius of Nike regardless of what you think about the situation itself.  Strong feelings elicit strong attachments.  It's unfortunate in my mind that one person should require so much attention and influence.
